Baja Blast is a Mexican-inspired tropical lime flavor of Mountain Dew that has been available since August 2004. As a Taco Bell exclusive flavor, it was designed to be drank along with any Taco Bell meal.
History
The idea to have a one-of-a-kind soda flavor exclusive to a restaurant was brand new back in 2004 when Baja Blast was launched at Taco Bell. The collaborative effort between Taco Bell and Pepsico was a way to reinforce the idea of the "Think Outside the Bun" slogan by offering a unique beverage.1
Ten years after initial release, in the Summer of 2014 Mountain Dew released Baja Blast available at retail for the first time ever. Since then, every Summer comes another limited release to be bought in stores. The summertime releases from 2021 and onward have also included other variation of "Baja" drinks from Mountain Dew.
Freeze Releases
- In 2013, when Taco Bell replaces their Frutista Freeze product line with new freezes, a Baja Blast flavor was launched and has remained a permanent freeze flavor ever since.
- When Cantina locations launched in 2015, the Baja Blast Twisted Freezes came with them. These are standard Baja Blast Freezes served with a shot of rum, tequila, or vodka
- As a limited time offer from October 17th, 2019 to November 20th, 2019, the Baja Blast Birthday Freeze was released to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Baja blast. This addition added candy sprinkles to the top of the freeze
- A limited time offer in May of 2021 released the Baja Blast Colada Freeze, adding a swirl of piña colada-inspired tropical cream to the Baj Blast Freeze
